(Music by Fredric Chopin plays throughout the story)
(Narrator)There once was a large house deep in the mountains. The house was surrounded by a long fence on one side. On the other side there was an old tree with no lives. In the house lived a little girl who loved to read scary and mysterious stories (*cricket is chirping). (This is during the night time when the stars and the moon is out)
The little girl’s name is Nina. She loved to read stories because she would go to faraway places. Reading books helped her not feel alone since she lived all by herself (The little girl is standing in front of the book shelf). (Transition: turn page to the left)
One night, the little girl was reading one of her favorite scary stories about a mysterious shadow. As she read the story, her eyes began to close and fell asleep. (She is seated on her bed with a book opened on her lap).
Then the little girl was woken by the sound of scratching on the door. She slowly walks toward the door of her room (*sound of footsteps) and gently opens the door (*sound of a door opening). She walked out of her room and into the hallway. There was no one or anything that could have made that noise. After a while, she goes back to her room. Little did she know that a shadow was following her in the hall way. Unfortunately she couldn’t go back to sleep and decides to wait and see if she hears or sees anything unusual. (Transition: turn page to the left)
All of a sudden, she sees a shadow figure in the corner of the room. The small object begins to move. It jumped up in the air and landed on her bed. To her amazement the small creature was a black cat. The child was filled with joy that she would not be alone anymore and all her fears went away.
Then her eyes begin to close. The next morning, (*alarm clock ringing) she wakes up to realize that it was all a dream. She did not have a live cat. But she woke up with a plush toy. It was shaped like a car with buttoned eyes and a pink ribbon tied around its neck. These events seemed very bizarre. Who or what could have given her this plush toy?
