Distinguishing morphological features of Family:

▪ Body: nearly bare in regards to hairy body, large thorax, elongated abdomen, long FW and small Halteres behind as HW

▪ Head: Big eyes, face is bearded,

▪ Antennae: 10-segmented

▪ Tarsi: 2-segmented

Ecological importance: Predatory behavior, feed on various arthropods creating a balance between insect populations in various habitats; kill their prey by injecting saliva with toxins in their victims.

Economic importance: Have a negative effect on bees, considered as bee killers.
