Taxonomic Information:

▪ Body: Small and multi-colored; parallel-sided with one or more rows of small spines

▪ Head: Has two eyes that are present on the top of the head

▪ Wings: Has two pairs of wings and are strong flyers.

▪ Mouthparts: Sharpshooters with piercing-sucking mouthparts, which they use to tap into and feed upon plant sap

▪ Antennae: Thick part of the antennae is very short and ends with a bristle

▪ Tarsi: Made of three segments

Ecological Importance: Many are pests of cultivated plants; few serve as vectors of plant diseases. They lay large numbers of egg that causes serious damage to young trees

Economical Importance: They carry vector plant diseases that inflict economic loses in agricultural crops
