DARPA Project: Restoring Active Memory (RAM) I picked this project to discuss because it deals with traumatic brain injury or TBI. My best friend's father suffers from a TBI. This is an injury that can happen when a person's brain becomes damaged by an auto accident or other impact to the brain. It causes swelling on the brain that impairs the ability to remember certain memories prior to the injury.
The goal of this project is to accelerate the development of technology to assist with getting over the memory losses faced during a TBI. The end goal is to develop a wireless, implantable device for human use but there is much research to do prior to this end goal including animal studies.
