Morphological Characteristics:

-Small bodied golden colored flies

-Reddish eyes

-Converging post vertical bristles.

-One pair of developed front wings and a pair of undeveloped back wings(halteres)

-Five segmented tarsi

-Bristles on the thorax and on the frons.

-These are common in wooded areas.

Ecological Importance:

-Larvae eat decaying forest matter, such as leaves and similar vegetation.

-They are a very important food for larger animals.

-Many of them are considered to be pests, as they are scavengers as adults.

-Good pollinators.

Economic Importance:

-Good pollinators

-Can spread disease
