Location: Latitude: 33°58'56.2" N, Longitude: 84°00'06.2" W

Date of Collection: February 6th, 2016

H’ Value for GGC 4: 2.256948328

Distinguishing Features: Collembola consist of six or fewer segments, with tube-like structure on center of first abdominal sternum and usually with forked structure on 4th or 5th abdominal sterna. Collembola have antennae size range of four to six segments. The bodies of Collembola are usually covered in scales.

Ecological Importance: Collembola are decomposers in the ecological pyramid and they provide a place to live for many parasites. Collembola themselves are also a food source for higher ranking consumers.

Economic/Agricultural/Health Importance: Collembola decompose and recycle organic matter for an ecosystem.

H’=2.25695

Distinguishing morphological features of Order:

Two main body shapes, either cylindrical or elongated A set of simple eyes, usually with 8 ocilli. A forked, tail like organ (furca) 4-6 segmented antennae Mouth parts hidden by oral folds Soft bodies and wingless

Ecological Importance:

They help break down decaying matter by feeding on it. Help recycle organic wastes.

Economic/agricultural/human health importance:

Important for enrichment of soil Decomposers

Location of collection: Lat: 33°58'56.2" N Long: 84°00'06.2" W

Date of collection: February 15, 2016

H' value:2.256948

Distinguishing morphological features of Order: Elongate or oval body with no wings, long antenna. The abdomen has 6 or fewer segments with tube like structure on center of first abdominal sternum.

Ecological Importance: Detrivores that help with decomposition.

Economic/agricultural/human health importance: Humans consider them pests because they eat their crops. They carry mycorrhizal fungi spores to plants, so they are actually beneficial to plants.
