Distinguishing morphological features of Family:
▪ Body: Small white body.
▪ Mouthparts: sucking mouthparts, ingests blood of other organisms.
▪ Antennae: long, segmented antennae with hair like filaments.
▪ Tarsi: Segmented and thin
▪ Eyes: Large black eyes
Ecological importance: It is a carrier of a parasite called Leishmania which it can give to humans when sucking blood.
Economic importance: Because they can infect people, there is a need for medical intervention which is not cheap and it is difficult to track spawn locations of these bugs.
