Distinguishing morphological features of Family:

▪ Wings: Front wings membranous or thickened. Usually held roofline over body at rest

▪ Jumping span: 2-5 mm

▪ Antennae: 10-segmented, long and threadlike, rarely absent

▪ Tarsi: 2-segmented, legs rarely lacking

Importance: Few species are pests of orchard trees or garden plants. One western species acts as vector of plant disease known as "psyllid yellows"

Habits: Free-living and feed on variety of plants. Few are gall makers, generally forming galls on hackberry leaves.
