1950s

Optical Fiber was a major accomplishment of the 1950's while these weren't very good, they did kick-start development. It was Kapany who coined the term fibre optics in 1956 but it was van Heel who discovered that, by covering the bare fibre/glass/plastic with a transparent cladding, contamination and crosstalk were greatly reduced.-Harris Jr, Calvin Febuary,12,2018 Micro fiber.jpg

Ferranti Mark I

The title of “first commercially available general-purpose computer” probably goes to Britain’s Ferranti Mark I for its sale of its first Mark I computer to Manchester University. The Mark 1 was a refinement of the experimental Manchester “Baby” and Manchester Mark 1 computers, also at Manchester University. A British government contract spurred its initial development but a change in government led to loss of funding and the second and only other Mark I was sold at a major loss to the University of Toronto, where it was re-christened FERUT 1951 FERRANTI MARK 1.jpg

First Touch Screen

The first finger-driven touchscreen to have been invented by E.A. Johnson in 1965 at the Royal Radar Establishment in Malvern, United Kingdom. The milestone of this technology is that it would be further developed and then used in almost everyday technologies.

1970s

Gene Amdahl, father of the IBM System/360, starts his own company, Amdahl Corporation, to compete with IBM in mainframe computer systems. The 470V/6 was the company’s first product and ran the same software as IBM System/370 computers but cost less and was smaller and faster.

1980s

Photoshop was created in 1988 by Thomas and John Knoll. It is the process of altering and manipulating an image to make it more appealing to a person. It was formerly know as ImagePro but was later changed to Photoshop. It is a milestone because it was first used in the making of the infamous Star Wars and it is still being used in modern days. Adobe was one of the first users of Photoshop and it is still the most well-known application that uses the Photoshop software. --Nicolleen Wilson 17:18, 12 February 2018 (EST) Photoshop.jpg

2010s

2010: First Fully Robotic Surgery

On October 13, 2010, the first entirely robotic surgery was performed on a human being. This momentous breakthrough in medicine is a clear demonstration of the capacity of technology and computing to provide critical operations with the extreme accuracy required by surgery. The technology also allowed for anesthesia to be given by precisely calibrated robotic instruments. The possibility of saving human life is increased by every new development in the field of computing; this development being owed to the accuracy and precision common of these systems. Apple Watch, 2015

In 2015, the Apple watch was created. It is a watch that you wear around your wrist, except it has a touch screen that runs the same software as an Iphone, rather than a standard timepiece clock face. Apple watches can detect heartbeat and other fitness related monitors, as well as it can be used to call, text, and everything else the Iphone can be used for. It resembles something you could see spies using in old movies when this technology was non existent. Applewatch.jpg AppleWatch2.jpg

2017

In the September of 2017 Microsoft created the first programming language for future quantum computers.
