Brief Bio

Linda Gilbert received her PhD in Instructional Technology from the University of Georgia in 1999. Her research interests involve the ways in which people use computers for higher-level creative and intellectual tasks, including human-computer interaction, electronic performance support systems, situated cognition, and activity theory. In addition, she is interested in qualitative research methodology and practice. For her dissertation, she studied the use of qualitative data analysis programs (Reflections of qualitative researchers on the use of qualitative data analysis software: An activity theory perspective).

Dr. Gilbert has worked as an evaluator on multiple grants, primarily for the improvement of teacher preparation. She has also taught Qualitative Research Methods at the University of Georgia. Her teaching philosophy is tightly tied to her view of learning as an interactive process. The more that students engage with the topic and explore it – through class materials and activities, through discussion and reflection, and through making connections to prior knowledge – the deeper learning will be.
