All About Me
All About Me – Dr. Lissa Pollacia
Currently, I am a Professor of Information Technology at Georgia Gwinnett College. I teach ITEC courses in the area of database management systems and object-oriented programming, and handle the internship program. Personally, I am happily married and have two children: Nick who is a 3rd year cadet at the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Anne-Marie who is a Sophomore in high school. Having two teenagers keeps me pretty busy (and never bored!) I also have two little trouble makers named P.J. and Pepi. They do not put up with squirrels, cats, or anyone employed by the Postal Service.
If I were a famous character
If I were a famous character I think I would be Giselle from the movie Enchanted. She’s a little naive, generally pretty happy, but an organized and industrious worker. I love how she makes her own clothes from the curtains. However I do not walk around singing “Happy Little Working Song” or enlist animals to clean up my home. I would also have to remember not to accept any apples from suspicious-looking evil queens.
My accomplishments: I have served as the contest coordinator for the national Database Design contest at the 2010 and 2011 National Collegiate Conference, and coached the team of students who took first place in the nation. (National championship—Hooah!) My GGC team took 4th place at the 2011 competition. I have also published numerous works in journals and conference proceedings, as well as contributed to textbooks in the field. I won the Mildred Hart Bailey Award for Outstanding Research in 1996 and the Excellence in Teaching Award for the College of Business in 2004.
